Today I’m thrilled to share an inspiring interview I did with one of our incredible members, Meaghan.

She started off in our membership and has since become a vital part of our team, helping run our thriving communities. In this interview, Meaghan opens up about her journey from discovering digital art to building a

successful Etsy shop, Ravenwings Clipart that has almost reached 5000 sales.

Her story is full of valuable insights and tips for anyone looking to dive into the world of digital products.

Can you share a bit about your background and what led you to start an Etsy shop selling digital products?

One day, I was on Facebook, just scrolling aimlessly, and I saw an ad to learn how to create digital art. This was before AI was around. It was a Photoshop-based course, and I was immediately drawn into that world and loved it so much.

I started making my own resources like grunge borders with Photoshop brushes, Photoshop masks, and more. One day, I decided to open an Etsy store to sell them to other digital artists like me, and then the obsession began.

Can you walk us through your journey in the first year of running the Etsy shop? What were some of the key milestones and challenges you faced?

I started Ravenwings Clipart on the 1st of August last year, and even though I had a few stores before, this Etsy store has been my focus. I have concentrated on putting into practice everything I have learned in Passive Income Society.

One of the most exciting milestones for this store was acknowledging to myself that people loved what I did. I remember when I hit my first 1000 sales, I was over the moon, and it just gave me a wonderful sense of ‘I can do this’ and this is my business, more than a hobby.

Challenges have been the rollercoaster that is Etsy. Some days, I would have numerous sales, and others, it was silent. If you are not careful, these fluctuations can really play with your sense of confidence, so it was

important to me to just continue on in those times and create more

products that I loved.

Can you share your process for creating new digital products? How do you identify opportunities and come up with ideas for new offerings?

I seem to always have new ideas of things to create. They are not always trending, but I do tend to follow my own style, and that does seem to work

for me.

I do check which of my items are selling well and expand on that particular theme, whether a different color, different character type, etc.

If I am searching for new ideas outside my own thoughts, I do like to see what types of invitations are trending—the more whimsical, the better!

What are you most proud of when it comes to your business?

This may sound strange, but what I am most proud of is that it is mine!

I am creating a business that is not only my Etsy stores now, but has grown into helping people, teaching, and that is something I do take pride in.

What is your favorite product you have made in your store?

It is so hard to pick a favorite; I love my products!!

But I do still love my first product. It set me on my path to this.

Almost one year on, and I have what I view as a successful store.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced?

I think the biggest challenge has been me. I had to get past some

insecurities, imposter syndrome, which still comes up at times, and also the major thought of ‘can I really do this?’

Also, we can’t forget the shiny object syndrome—keeping focused has been difficult at times, but I have definitely seen the benefit of being

disciplined, especially in Ravenwings Clipart.

What techniques do you use to build strong relationships with your customers and ensure their satisfaction?

I always make sure I only offer quality products; I never list a product that I am not happy with. I have been known to delete folders of images ready to list that I don’t think are good enough.

I also have a thank you that goes out and a quality freebie to help build my mailing list. My mailing list receives notifications of sales and sometimes special coupon codes just for them.

Where do you see your Etsy shop and digital product business heading in the next 3-5 years?

I would love to have several successful Etsy stores that need some

maintenance but not a lot. I also want to explore having some sort of

membership, but that is still in the brainstorming phase.

Our Liz talks of having a Lifestyle Business, and that term appeals to me.

If there is one piece of advice you would give someone just starting out, what would it be?

I think it’s important to choose something you love to do. We put so much time into our digital businesses that if we don’t love it, it would be harder to push through the hurdles that may come up. I have great passion in what I do.

I hope you find Meaghan’s journey as inspiring as I do!
